Inspiration

My mom has always been a fan of movies based on true stories and one movie she showed my brothers and me when we were younger was Cool Runnings.  This movie is about a group of Jamaican men who decided to form a bobsled team and go to the olympics.  Because they were from Jamaica and had never seen snow before, people did not take them seriously.  The team was coached by a former bobsled champion who wanted to redeem himself.  After much time and commitment put into  practicing for the winter olympics, the Jamaican bobsled team made it to the final day of racing.  Half way through the last race, they were in first place until one of the blades falls off and they came to a stop just a few feet before the finish line.  The team held the sled above their shoulders and walked across the finish line with a roaring applause from the crowd.  The progress that they made in the 1988 olympics gave them enough confidence to return to the next winter olympics four years later where they found more respect from their opponents.

“‘… a gold medal is a wonderful thing. But if you’re not enough without one, you’ll never be enough with one.'”  –Irv

This quote inspires me to think better of myself.  People should not rely on things to make themselves feel better; they should be good with who they are on their own.
